Editorial review from Citysearch 9/12/2013

First, let me state that I joined Private Workout in March of 2013. I trained with Sharon, Al, Patrick (not the owner but a new guy who quit) and Stephen in the 5 months I used a trainer. I purchased a total of 2 of the 3 month trainer sessions for twice a week for around $500 + the Protein Drink package.\r \r So let’s start with the basic concept and the positive of the PW experience. \r \r You have separate rooms with a machine in each room. You are given a sheet with your weights and reps and you take that to each room. There is a voice that comes on and says ‘Go Go Go’ and that prompts you to switch rooms/machines. I am thinking it is 100 seconds. The whole workout takes about 25 min. and does work a lot of your muscles. So if you are looking to workout in private and for a quick workout it does give you that. Now when in the room you do 3 weights; say 18 at 120, 6 at 200 and until you hear prompt 40 (this is an example of what is done in each room). And NO THIS IS NOT A BOOTCAMP!\r \r Now for the downside. There is a LARGE turn over with trainers. There is high pressure to buy into the membership (as with most places like this). The staff is not all qualified or do they fully understand the importance of certain things given different medical issues. The staff is not friendly for the most part. The machines are not cleaned in-between each person; there is no time and I question if the cardio machines are ever cleaned as there was a tissue in the cup holder for over a week (I put a blue mark on it to see how long it took).\r \r So I know you are wondering did I see results. Well I went 3 times (2 times with trainer and once on my own) a week for the most part, I ate healthy, drank their protein drink, I did cardio, I did the pw workout, I talked with my trainer/manager/doctor and are you ready my percentage of body fat went up as did my pounds and clothing size. Now I am not saying that I am like everyone else. Let’s go back to the staff does not understand medical issues and the program does not allow for flexibility in the workout to truly be tailored to each individual person.\r \r I also suffered 2 injuries while working out there. A calf strain and another strain. All happened because the ‘heavy’ was too much.\r \r So why did I buy a second 3 month package and protein drink after no real results. Because my trainer Stephen made some changes to what I was doing (ageist what the program is) and I thought I would give it another 3 month try. Well he left Private Workout and at that point I decided to not do another trainer (turns out they had another girl trainer for about a week that was more like a cheerleader and not a trainer; again not qualified). I requested a refund on my unused drinks and I was told that even though I was not going to do my trainer sessions I could still collect my drinks after a workout. Well they owe me 9 because I just could no longer deal with the mood at the gym.\r \r Now I am not saying the concept is not great. It works for many but I personally talked to 8 people that were much like me. Now I can’t say that those people were not hitting the drive thru or whatever I just know that I was doing what I could for the program to work.\r \r Since not returning to PW I have had fabulous results and the only change was the gym I go too and the way my weights are done.\r more
