3 years after having my drain snaked and the plumber finding roots, I experienced backups from my main line out to the lateral. For three years I'd used Copper Sulfate crystals to fend off the problem, but it didn't solve my problem. I considered renting an electric snake and attempting the job myself, but after getting some fatherly advice and the advice of some peers and mentors, I opted to call a plumber. Roto-Rooter was the one sure recommendation I got, so I gave them a call. The Plumber, Ray, was very polite and professional and discussed the issue with me, and went immediately to work on the issue. He was thorough in his work, making sure to double back through the line with a 2nd blade to make sure it was clear, and then worked on the line from the basement drain to the main line, and discovered some debris and build up that could potentially congest that line. He made sure to clean up. and offer a little more insight about the sewage lines and other ways to minimize problems.
