Do not use VCA Asher Animal Hospital unless your animal is at risk of death before your regular veterinarian is available. \r

VCA Asher Animal Hospital is a corporate owned facility and their main focus is making money$$$. The amount they charge for services rendered is above and beyond the reasonable amount. \r

I have been a licensed veterinary technician for 20 years and am very familiar with what veterinary services should cost. VCA Asher takes advantage of the fact that they are the only emergency facility available in the Redding area. I have taken my pet to their facility on two separate occasions, only because I had no other choice. I urge all pet owners to seek care elsewhere if at all possible. I do not have any complaints regarding the care they provide, but they will charge you excessively and add services to your bill (also know as bulls*** fees) that will result in you paying three to four times or more for the same services you would receive elsewhere. For example, it should not cost $302 to anesthetize a cat for 20 minutes (this was just for the anesthesia - not any procedures which they also charged excessively for). \r
\r
The total bill at my last visit was over $1300 for the 24 hours my pet was in their care. At any other facility, the same care would have been around $500. \r

I do hope that another emergency facility will be available someday in the Redding area where the community can receive quality care at a fair cost. Pet owners should not have hope that their animal won't die before their regular veterinarian is open, because a visit to the only facility in town that offers emergency services will cost them their first born child.
