My family has been with Dr. Mech for over 10 years. I have 4 children that suffer from bipolar disorder and have received outstanding care from Dr. Mech. Some comments on the reviews I have read.1) There are issues at times with waiting. This is somewhat inevitable with the type of patient typical for a mental health facility. If you were in crisis, you would take more time, hence the delays. He is a specialist and I do not find this that uncommon. 2) You have to fill in paperwork prior to each appointment, including your first visit. No doctor should be treating you without this information. Pulling information from the patient is done using written, verbal and non-verbal clues. Unlike a general practitioner, there is no ""magic"" test for mental illness. The psychiatrist needs to use all information at his disposal to diagnose. As the patient, it is your health, so speak up, or have a family member speak for you.3) Dr. Mech is not afraid to step up and aggressively treat severe mental illness. Too many psychiatrists leave their patients to suffer while they wait months between med trials. I have been extremely satisified with Dr. Mech's practice. I appreciate the fact that he is involved in medication studies. It is imperative that a good psychiatrist be up to date on all the latest trends in medications. He is an alternative to a hospital. His goal is to keep the patient in the home and functional. If you are looking for strong psychiatric support - you can do no better then trusting his practice.
