Stopped by Chocollage for the first time today with my wife after we visited our newborn daughter at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD). I had read some positive reviews online and wanted to take my wife out for a little mini-date. When we arrived Lee Anne warmly greeted us. When we told her it was our first time at the bakery, she came around the counter and apologized that that there wasn’t more of a selection available due to Easter customer requests. In my perspective there were still many options to choose from and she took the initiative to briefly name and describe each item in the display case. I definitely appreciated her great customer service and kind demeanor after a long and tiring day.\r

My wife and I decided to split one of their most popular desserts called the Peanut Butter Bomb. It was delicious, and extremely rich. Half of the dessert was more than enough for me, as I can only handle so much sweetness at one sitting. My wife loved it. We then struck up a conversation with Lee Anne and told her that we were visiting our daughter at the hospital. She was a very caring listener and empathized with our experience. \r

She then informed us of Chocollage’s lunch menu items and graciously offered to be able to have lunches “prepared to go” for our hospital visits if we called shortly ahead of time. At this point in time, based on the welcoming atmosphere, excellent dessert, and above and beyond customer service, I knew that we would most likely become frequent customers of this fine establishment. However, I have to be honest when I say that I never would have expected what happened next.\r

When we had finished our dessert and were ready to pay the check, Lee Anne told us that, based on our circumstances with our daughter and, understanding how stressful/tiring things must be at the moment for us, not to worry about the check. What a kind, thoughtful, and unexpected act of customer service! I thanked her for the gesture and offered to pay again, but she insisted that the bill was “on the house”. We thanked Lee Anne for our wonderful first impression of Chocollage and told her we would definitely be back to try all of the other, and I am confident, delicious items on the menu. That being said, if, by chance, you ever have the opportunity to stop by Chocollage, I give it my highest recommendation and know the experience will be well worth it; if only just to meet Lee Anne. Thanks again Lee Anne! Your new frequent customers: Dirk and Amy.\r
