When we 1st started eating at Tacos El Norte restaurant in Gurnee, their food was very tasty, very much like homemade Mexican. We had lunch and dinner frequently because the food and SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. Today I was very disappointed with their food and service. This is the 2nd time within 2 months that I have been very dissatisfied. Being of Mexican origin myself and have family that owns a Mexican restaurant in Chicago I was appalled and the dishes I had ordered. The 1st dish was Camarones Diablos o en Diablados. This dish was overpowered by severely spicy jalapeno peppers it was impossible to even taste the shrimp. I wouldn't even serve this dish to my worst enemy unless I wanted them to suffer major gastritis. Today I ordered tacos al pastor, the meat was so over-cooked I thought I was chewing on beef jerky. There was no flavor in the shrimp soup my mother had either. The so-called refried beans were so loose it looked like baby's.... The service was really sad. We had to wait over 30 minutes for dessert which we did not eat because we had to leave. When I approached the chubby cashier in the back of the restaurant and complained about the food her response was rude and argumentative. She said I should not talk about the food the way I did because other people like it. I was a customer and she was not accepting a complaint that can comeback as something negative for the restaurant? Shame, shame shame...I would fire her if she worked for me. To the owner of Tacos El Norte, if you do not understand a customer's dissatisfaction, there is something wrong. Instead of correcting the problem you have a defensive employee who preferred to argue. From a Mexican who ONCE LOVED your food because for me it was so close to being authentic...your business is going downhill, especially if you have people that don't help take care of your business. I'm trying to be honest and helpful. I paid way too much for our meal today and it was not worth a penny. Taco Bell would have tasted a lot better. Que lastima. Oh and they got my carry out order completely wrong.
