I agree with W.H. Neerings is really expensive. My furnace wouldn't turn on and I ruled out the thermostat because while it wouldn't activate the furnace when I raised the temperature, it would activate the furnace if I raised the temperature and then pushed a button to ""lock"" the temperature so the furnace would run continually and not turn off. The technician connected a meter to my furnace and quickly determined the furnace was ok so the problem had to be my thermostat. When I called for service, I was quoted a $49 trip charge which would be credited towards the cost of any labor that was necessary. I had a choice of two thermostats, one for $393 or one for $449 and $49 to install. Thinking the price for thermostats had increased since 2004 I was about to make a selection when a visiting daughter and her husband talked me out of it. I bought a $79 thermostat at Lowe's and installed it my self. The technician not only charged me the $49 for the trip charge but an additional $40 for the 10 minutes it took to read the meter that he connected to my furnace. Last year they gave me a furnace tune up for $89 but that wasn't included in the $89 this trip. $393 for a thermostat? Really? more
