Editorial review from Citysearch 12/17/2013

I rented a car for a relatively short road trip over the weekend. The rental manager at the counter was friendly and helpful. He even put me into an upgraded class of vehicle when the one I reserved online wasn't available. The bad part came over a month after I returned the rental. I brought it back as scheduled (after hours) and left the keys in their drop box. I took excellent care of the car and returned it in perfect condition. I highly value integrity and personal accountability. Had anything gone wrong with the car, I would have addressed it immediately with the staff. I received a bill a few days ago for $1200, itemized to include replacing a tire and a steel wheel (the car doesn't even have steel wheels). There was nothing but smooth highway driving during my trip and no damage whatsoever had occurred. Since I am active duty military currently deployed overseas, getting this matter resolved is unusually difficult. I received no correspondence from the rental agents or any warning as to their damage claim. It is beyond a doubt that they are attempting to take advantage of me and have filed a fraudulent claim. This is criminal malfeasance and is especially frustrating since I can do little about it, being out of the country. I strongly advise everyone to stay far, far away from these unconscionable people.\r more
