After months of saying we should try it, we finally hit Market 17. It is tucked away and not in the most obvious location but if you like meals made with better ingredients, this place should not be missed. Started with drinks at the bar- the Guavaberry Mojito and Pricklypassion Martini were delicious. Happy hour pricing until 7:00 was also appreciated. The bar was quiet when we were there but seems like a great place for gathering with friends. Ambiance/interior is pleasant, fresh. Dining room is comfortable and noise was not an issue. The crowd picked up as the time passed which was nice because it would be a shame to see this place not make it. Dinner started with Florida Sweet Corn Cakes and the Shrimp, Snapper and Grouper Ceviche. Both were very good but we agreed that the ceviche was the better of the two. Our main course included the Elk Loin and the Florida Grouper. Though each ingredient in the grouper dish was good alone, mixed together it was simply so-so. The crispy brussel sprouts were the standout in the dish. However, the grouper dish overall had nothing on the elk dish which was really outstanding. Can't wait to go back and have it again. Dessert was the Sweet Plantain Bread Pudding- tasted nothing like plantains to us which was fine with one of us, but it was wonderful and eaten in a matter of minutes. The sherry currant ice cream and caramel sauce made it superb. Pricing was very reasonable and portion sizes were just right. Been to a lot of places, and for the money, this is one of the best places in Fort Lauderdale. Give it a try.
