I was very disappointed in the crabcakes considering that the City Paper critic loved the ""domestic"" crab meat. The meat was far from domestic. In fact, the crab meat was obviously the asian variety also known as Portunus pelagicus. For those of you who may be fooled by this inferior substitution to our delicious crab (Callinectes sapidus) look for skin at the ""knuckle"" of the lump. The asian variety of crab is not as sweet, not as fresh and has a mild fishy taste. I also tried the cream of crab which also had the same asian crab meat. The soup was on the salty side as well as the stuffed shrimp we purchased. I don't understand why domestic crab meat is not being used considering that the seafood case was full of it. I'll make my own crabcakes next time!
