Bad business policy/customer service! 4/20/2012

I was renting from an apartment which had a single veracity fiber line for each building (24 apartments). We had to ""sign up"" (check a box when applying for the apartment) if we wanted to use the built in network for internet or our own. By signing up we got an account where each month we had to login to verify we're still using the service I also setup where I could have it automatically charge my credit card so I wouldn?t have to do it each month. I figured why not I'd try it and if it wasn't up to par with what I expected I'd look for an alternative. It was a great internet connection except around 7-8pm when everyone was on then it would drop where I couldn't even load a basic webpage (only HTML, no images or JavaScript), I expected this to some degree but that was extreme. This made me think about paying the $600 installation fee for a dedicated line (my career is info tech). I was happy with the service until I moved out. I had my mail forwarding 1 week earlier to the new address (the post office standard regimentation) so I wouldn't miss anything. The first month I never received the paper bill I got each month, the second month I received a bill from veracity. This is when I checked my credit card to make last month?s payment and noticed that they billed me. To have my account canceled I had to call them (it wasn't a month-to-month plan, which the login seemed like it). The monthly login was not to show that the account was still active and the service was being used. After talking on the phone with a veracity representative I asked why have the hassle of login in if they don't use it to check if the service is being used and to bill the customer? The answer I got from them was vague but ended up with the meaning ""I don't know, why we do that, you should have been informed by your apartment complex"". They would not credit back the charge but would cancel the current bill and my account. I was angry they charged me for a service I was not receiving. They could even verify that I was not using the service because I didn?t login with my account that month. Up until that point I was happy with their service and even would recommend it to others but with that business policy and how I was treated and ended up having to pay a bill I never got service for I would not recommend them. I had better customer service from Comcast (that?s saying a lot). more
