not the place it used to be... 4/28/2012

I've been to this place few times for happy hour and I liked most of the appetizers, except for the chicken wings, which were dry and more the size of frogs' legs. I always wanted to experience some of their full menu items, especially the fish. So finally I got myself to do it, and what a disappointment! I ordered the fish special, which was written only as bass. When I asked the bartender what kind of bass and where does it come from she said 'local'. The fish arrived and it was a pretty small fillet, placed on some unidentifiable greenery and 'white bean paste' with a canned food taste, with 5 yellow cherry tomatoes of varying levels of softness. I was hoping the taste will be more satisfying than the look, but I was up for a surprise. The fish had an burned salty crust on top of it, that I couldn't figure out how and why would someone do something like that. It was so salty that I had to order bread twice just to be able to live through it. MInd me, the bartender didn't even bother to ask how is the meal, even though she saw me chocking while ordering the bread. When I finally got her attention, she said the fish is from Long Beach. Really? The same Long Beach with the huge polluted shipping yard and high radiation levels? And I paid $25 for the taste of it? Sorry Akasha, but it takes a bit more to be the restaurant you aspire to be, and pricing yourself up won't get you there! more
