I have actually been taking my family to Accent Urgent Care for years. While not totally thrilled with the care we received I thought we got basic medical care during off hours of our regular doctor. One of the reasons I chose them was because they have x-ray capabilities and the urgent cares in Fuquay Varina, where I live, do not. So, to the at hand incident. My son sprained his ankle playing basketball on a Saturday and I thought he needed x-rays, so off we went to Accent in Cary from Fuquay Varina (with gas at almost $4 a gallon!). Once we filled out our paperwork and waited about 20 or 30 minutes the front desk person called me up and told me that essentially we would have to pay for the whole visit out of pocket because the information she had pulled up on her computer about our insurance benefits said that urgent care wasn't covered. She showed me the information and I knew that it wasn't correct. I told her that I was only supposed to pay 10% of the visit and that we had come in last year with the exact same insurance and that I only paid 10%. She proceeded to catch an attitude with me and was unnecessarily snotty. She said ""Well, this is what it says."" I asked her to pull up a previous visit with my daughter and she said she couldn't do that. I really don't know why considering my daughter is a minor and I am her mother. So, since I don't have hundreds of dollars at my disposal, we had to leave untreated and drive all the way back to Fuquay Varina. I called my insurance company bright and early Monday morning and of course I was correct. They told me that they do not subscribe to any online benefits information for providers and that they should have called the number on the card for providers and they could have heard the automated benefits info for our policy. I am upset and disappointed that my son was not treated and I wasted time and gas money. I did find out that their weekend front desk person is not the same as the person during the week. They need more competent staff!
