First time ever putting my 99 yrs old Mom in asst living so I could go on a vacation. Within several days found she had fallen, her pressure was high and she had been moved to a hospital. Note that while she is elderly, she does not have ""any"" medical problems. Hospital compounded the problem by giving her unnecessary medication. Asst living were very rough with her in waking her for their scheduled breakfast, resulting in her disorientation and subsequen high pressure because she was upset. After all she is 99. I had to cut my vacation so that I could 'save"" her from the world of elderly medication. She is now home and doing spectacularly. Sadly, if the elderly do not have someone to protect them, the asst living and hospitals can kill them. I have no doubt that had I not returned and demanded her discharge from hospital she would become a vegetable.
