Cost me years off of my life 2/12/2012

At first, we simply could not have been more pleased: quick response, fair pricing and what sounded like a professional grasp on the entire situation (we needed wallpaper removed, skim-coating repair and some painting.)\r \r The saga that ensued cost me years off my life and I will spare you the details but here, in a nutshell, is why I would never use this business again and why I am taking the time to write this review to protect other consumers.\r \r Michael (the Wallpaper Lady's son, who she referred us to when we called her number) was always very nice- he just didn't show up for work once he got our deposit. Oh he showed up for the estimate- and about an hour late to the contract signing where we gave him 50% upfront (this should have been the first red-flag but he is so nice that we didn't think anything of it.) Seriously, he would say he was on his way- and I would wait around for him at the job site (my house which we hadn't yet moved into) for hours- with my two little kids- and he wouldn't come. He would say he'd be there in 10 minutes and hours would pass. Likewise, when he finally did come, he would say a particular project would be done by...(fill in the day) 'Wednesday, for example' and two Wednesdays came and went without them even STARTING the work. There was never even any good excuse, he would just say 'oh we'll start on that tomorrow morning!' and then the next day would come and go without any work being done. On this went for amonth.\r \r And this is on a very simple project (wallpaper removal + minor wall repair in 4 rooms) with nothing preventing him from starting or doing his work and weeks passed without the work being done. When he finally did start, he would work for a short time and then leave to ""pick something up"" that he needed, saying that he'd be right back, but then not show up again that day. Day after day, we waited for it to be done because he said ""it was no problem and would be done tomorrow"" (or whatever day) and those days would come and go without any work done. \r \r Stupid me, I kept reasoning with him, asking him to please be realistic about when he tells me the work would be done because we have had to paint and move-in, but he never would.\r \r In the end, we decided to fire him, with the work far from done simply because he was not working and we ended up having to stay at a hotel for weeks because he had delayed our move-in. What's worse, we had to have a significant piece of the work fixed because it wasn't done properly.\r \r Because Michael is such a nice person, I delayed writing this review for 3 months, debating how I wanted to handle the situation. As a nice person myself, I don't want to ruin anyone's business, but as a consumer I realized that I rely heavily on customer-reviews as they are one of the only ways to know whether or not you are choosing a trustworthy contractor/vendor. To be honest, I'm still shocked at the blatant disregard for promises and delivery dates that was shown towards us and it had significant financial and personal ramifications for us as a family so I want to spare anyone else the same stress and hardship. more
