Overpriced Housing, Fraudulent Management 2/21/2012

After escaping the city for a winter I moved in to my girlfriends apartment here. Firstly we went to the management office to add me to the lease, they told us there wasn't a reason to but had me fill out the paperwork. Despite 3 email reminders, they never filed it, which affected my credit when I went to apply for a small loan as I couldn't show that I was currently paying the large monthly amount that was my rent. Come the end of the lease and we're excited to move out, our decision only bolstered by the fact that they wanted to raise our rent about 15% (about $300/mo) When told we were moving out they offered to removed this, which is pretty scammy to begin with. For move out they told us that nobody was available for a walkthrough, but they didn't have to come look at the apt, just to clean up and leave the keys. We cleaned the place spotless and left. Come a week later we get a notice that they've charged $275 for painting and cleaning. No damages from us, beyond wear and tear and much of it was cleaner than was received, yet they claim it needed cleaning and painting. Now in the process of trying to receive our money we're getting the runaround, endless loops calls to the same people, and they're now telling us that because we didn't do a walkthrough (which we were told wasn't possible) that we couldn't get our money back. They tried to make us feel better by saying everyone gets charged cleaning and painting, and really it's more of a ""fee"" even though there's most definitely no mention in the lease. It's looking like the only way we'll receive the money is to take them to court. We also had several service requests for a broken latch on our dishwasher ignored. more
