A discouraging waste of time and money 1/22/2012

We went to Sheryl for boundary issues with extended family. She advertised herself as a Christian counselor that specialized in boundaries and coping mechanisms. The cost of her sessions was a bit to swallow but we had faith she would be worth it. We were very clear about what was worth our time to discuss and what avenues we did not want to pursue. Our sessions often ran over because we would get derailed. She would try to pass this off as ""free counseling"" but it really was a diversion from our main purpose. The ""solutions"" that Sheryl provided were not Christian. They were confrontational and cruel and did not try to work things out in a peaceful way. Had I followed her suggestions, my marriage would be further torn apart. Luckily, I realized this through prayer and reflection. I felt personally attacked several times during her sessions. She would say, ""don't feel like I'm attacking you, you're just giving me something to work with."" Meanwhile, my husband would sit silently as Sheryl tore me apart .. which created the need in her mind for more counseling. After spending close to $1,000, I decided enough was enough and cut her off. I'm glad we did. My husband and I still have the same issues we walked in with but at least we're not being exploited and handing over our paychecks to work on them . more
