Be aware of what you're eating! 1/12/2012

After a rough Christmas and driving home at night, my mother and I opted into not making dinner and instead went out to this Denn'ys. It was a huge mistake. The waitress was fine, and the food came quickly, but what was ordered had a bit of a shocking ""extra surprise"". Directly in the center of cooked hash browns was a nearly 1 inch in size plastic square tab! It was a tab from a plastic bag that must have held the hash browns (or other food). White, slightly melted, and dated ""DEC"" on the side it was pulled up and out of the food. Debating how to go about bringing it up to someone, we waited for a waitress or some kind of host to stop in and check. Quite a while passed without anyone, and the hunger set in causing us to begin eating the other portions of food (after closely checking it out for other objects). The waitress finally showed up and it was announced that a foreign object was found in our food. She was pretty shocked herself and went to get the manager. Soon after the ""manager"" showed up to look in on the situation. It was explained that the object was cooked into the food, and her response was that indeed it was the plastic that holds the bags shut. She then went on to say the following, and I quote... ""It's a busy night, and it's possible someone in the back wasn't paying attention and it came off the bag. This kind of thing happens from time to time. I'll let them know in the back about it."". She offered another serving of hash browns (who would want it after that. It was declined) then she dashed off with the plastic tab, went to the counter area, and threw it away. From what I could see no effort was being taken to warn anyone as she sat down and proceeded to eat something herself. Right away the check came. No apology, no compensation, nothing. I wasn't expecting the world, but ""I'm sorry"" or possibly taking some of the value off the amount. So when I was asked how my meal was when paying at the register, I just shook my head, paid, and left. Later on after thinking about it, I had thought about some words the manager said. ""It happens from time to time"". It does?? It shouldn't. Before leaving I took note that it wasn't overly crowded as she claimed (no more so than any other Denny's Ive been to on a normal day) but several people eating were children. I just hope that in the future it won't happen to a hungry child who's in the middle of eating there and doesn't know any better to check their food. But it just might, because as she said. ""It happens from time to time"". It's a scary thought. Never eating there again. more
