Does not understand Hashimoto's hypothyroidism 9/20/2011

I saw Dr. Smadja-Gordon twice for hypothyroid symptoms. She does not listen, nor does she care about my symptoms- instead she robotically follows the TSH results. The first time, she noticed that I had only been tested for one of the Hashimoto's antibodies, but refused to order the second antibody test despite the fact that my sister has an autoimmune disease. The second time, I went to her office with a positive TgAb result to prove that I have Hashimoto's. She did not understand why autoimmune thyroiditis may cause variable TSH results. When I explained to her that when the immune system destroys a thyroid cell, it releases thyroid hormone temporarily into the bloodstream, she looked at me like I was crazy. She told me ""Hashimoto's is ust a marker to explain why you are hypothyroid."" Perhaps she is fine with other endocrinology issues, but I do NOT recommend her if you are female and hypothyroid. more
