A SCATHING REVIEW - A cautionary tale 8/5/2011

I visited this practice with my 3rd pregnancy last summer.\r \r Essentially, you never get to speak to a doctor here, at least not to the same one twice. Whenever you call, there is one RN who apparently takes calls and she is never there. It is frustrating to leave message after message, and when you get to speak with the nurse, she is disengaged and dismissive.\r \r I had had a previous miscarriage, am over 35, so I wanted to make sure I got timely checkups and blood tests. They did an initial blood test but upon reflection, I wonder why they did not check progesterone. They only checked HCG. It turns out it is common to be low in progesterone after 35 and the body will not sustain a pregnancy. They should have checked it knowing that I had miscarried previously. But as you will see, this is very typical of this place. They are clueless, there is no communication between anyone and honestly, it runs like a factory. \r \r They did an ultrasound at 10 weeks (btw I had still never spoken to or seen a Dr. yet) and unfortunately, I had a blighted ovum. I then saw Dr. Kattal who was in the office at the time who then presented me my options. I chose to take the pill to miscarry which I then did over the next 24 hrs. (I never saw her again). \r \r After the miscarriage I continued to feel very ill and called the practice several times to try and speak with a Dr. At no time did a Dr. call me. Not once. I would speak to the nurse and she would say ""Come get a blood test"". I called them probably 5 times over the next 2 weeks because I felt extremely unwell and still ""felt pregnant"". They kept saying its normal and to wait. I was brought in twice to get blood tests. They wanted to check my HCG levels. Not once, did they think it might be important to do an ultrasound - which I then found out later is protocol for a case like this. They are supposed to do an ultrasound 1 week later to ensure all the tissue is out. They didn't.\r \r 2.5 weeks later I hemorrhaged at 2 in the morning, was taken to the ER on 2 IVs, with a BP of 68/38. I went into shock at the hospital convulsing and dry vomiting. I had an emergency D and C by Dr. Molly Clark who happened to be there then. (I never saw her again either, neither did she ever call me knowing her practice had been so negligent). My HCt was 23 so they debated a transfusion but decided against it. Apparently, I still had pregnancy tissue left that was toxic. It took me 2.5 months to recover from this. I was so weak.\r \r What frustrated me so much was that this was TOTALLY avoidable. Turns out, they were supposed to get me in 1 week after the miscarriage to do an ultrasound to check if everything was clear. Somehow, they didn't follow this protocol with me, even when I called them repeatedly to report that I felt unwell. In the aftermath when I visited, I saw Dr. Vasilakis (yet a new Dr., not Dr. Kattal or Dr. Clark) who I explained this to. What was she going to say? She didn't make much eye contact but didn't apologize either really. I did tell her that perhaps they can retain more RNs given that Dr.s are not there to speak to patients over the phone or answer phone calls.\r \r A last note regarding front desk: The waiting room is very busy, and there are several front desk receptionists who seem so busy, it always takes several minutes before someone even acknowledges you. They seem very unprofessional, there is always food on the desk, and they are busy chatting with each other. This was my impression but the place was v. busy so I expected that beyond this initial impression, everything else would be fine.\r \r Since then, I have spoken with so many people who have had similar experiences and swear they would never touch that place. I should have done my research. Honestly, this is the worst place. I would avoid them. FYI, I don't tend to leave reviews, maybe only if I have something glowing to report. However, I feel so strongly regarding this, I want women to know what kind of place this is. AVOID. more
