We adopted a 7 month old doberman/greyhound mix three weeks prior to our great experience at The Dog Resort. She was doing great with people, but was reactive with other dogs (barking, lunging to get to them). We had planned a weekend away long before we adopted our dog and since other dogs would be joining us, we needed to board her for the weekend. We emailed to ask if they are able to accommodate dogs like ours. Mona responded quickly and thoroughly saying that yes, they did board dogs that were reactive. In addition, she offered to work on socializing our pup while we were away, explained that she had worked with many dogs like ours before, and that she thought she could help with this issue. She also gave us many options including boarding our pup at her home or keeping our dog separated from other dogs the whole time. I called and spoke with Robert, the manager of The Dog Resort, who answered all my questions and clearly had a keen understanding of dogs and socialization. We were very clear that we did not want her to have negative associations with interacting with other dogs and Robert assured us that they are very careful about that. When we dropped her off, we saw many dogs enjoying the outdoor area and indoor spaces. Many of the staff present were holding or petting other dogs. Our dog was barking/lunging, as per usual because she saw other dogs. Robert came and met her and said he thought she would do just fine. When we returned from our trip, we were thrilled to see our puppy running around with several other dogs, all sizes and ages! Robert reported that she really just wanted to play with other dogs and that she acclimated very quickly. He said she would still bark occasionally, but that she did great all weekend. He also gave us tips for helping her with this when out walking on a leash. We were very hesitant to board our puppy so soon after we adopted her, but really could not risk bringing her along and having difficulties with the other dogs present. We were extremely pleased with the service at The Dog Resort, particularly with the fact that they did not just accommodate our situation, they offered to help and improved the situation dramatically. We will definitely board her there in the future and might take her to daycare there too (the only reason we might not is that it is very far away from our home).
