dignity??? 8/11/2011

My father passed away in July. We met with a funeral director, slash used car salesman, 4 days after his death. This guy used high pressure sales tactics and would not or could not take no for answer. The prices and services they wanted were out of line. They charged us extra for refrigeration of my fathers remains prior to cremation which by state law can not be carried out for 3 days after death. Extra fees there. Then they tried to get us to purchase several copies of the death certificate at $12.00 a pop. Copies of death certificates are available from the State Department of Vital Records for $5.00 with the cause of death and $4.00 without. They claimed the $12.00 fee for a rush order when in fact I was able to get the copies from the courthouse before the funeral home had received them. After all that my father was finally cremated and we had requested his ashes be placed in 2 urns. A small amount in one that would be buried in his church's memorial garden and a larger amount that my mother would keep. Seemed like a simple enough request. Well when the time came to pick up his ashes, the funeral home representative said they had 4 boxes. What? There should be 2! After some checking they did determine there were only 2 however they could not locate the 2nd smaller one. After some more digging around, hopefully not literally, they determined they did not put any of the ashes in the smaller urn. They asked my mother to return the large urn to the crematorium and they would take care of the situation. It was hard enough having to deal with losing my father. It made it even harder with the lack of ""Dignity"" they provided. I wouldn't be caught dead in this place. And by the way, the Starbucks in the lobby...very cheezy and low class. Avoid this place for the sake of your loved ones and yours!!! more
