I am 36, and have always eaten healthy, worked to manage my stress in healthy ways, and exercise regularly. Following a period of very stressful life events, I gained 25 lbs without changing my diet, was feeling exhausted all the time, and was not responding well to stress. My doctor ran some tests which indicated that I was glucose intolerant and insulin resistant, a pre-cursor to diabetes, and I was shocked. Essentially, my body was converting the food I ate directly to fat and leaving my cells without energy. I was already eating much healthier than the plans recommended for diabetics and my doctor put me on medication that made me anxious and interfered with my sleep. I did huge amounts of research to try and find a way to heal myself...but it was just too complicated to figure out on my own and I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and very concerned about about my long-term health.
