No expert on site whole job! No paperwork either! 6/24/2011

I was surprised when this company showed up at my door soliciting work, but at the same time had been putting off having trees trimmed for some time so figured while they were here I would let them have a look.\r \r The estimator kept trying to talk me into having large healthy Oaks removed from my property. I was firm in saying we love our trees and did not want any of them removed. He claimed that the largest one was diseased and would become a hazard if not removed. I got a bid for having all of the trees pruned and deadwooded. Figured I should get some other bids to compare this one too, so I called two more companies. The other companies gave me very competative bids and said that my trees were all healthy (the other two estimators willing showed me a wallet sized copy of their licenses as well which I did not know to ask for with the first gentleman). Needless to say the schedules for the other two companies were pretty far out, which should have been the sign of a reputable business to me but I just wanted the work done at this point. \r Unlimbited called me multiple times saying they could provide next day service. I liked the sound of that. The crew showed up the next day (barely spoke english) the estimator was not on site, nor the owner of the company. It seemed the crew had some knowledge but the language barrier was an issue for sure. They trimmed my trees (although I would have expected a little more thorough result from a professional company) I was just happy the dangerous stuff was removed and not a hazard to my roof any longer. At the end of the day I paid for the service as they definately spent the day working. \r I was pretty ticked that all day went by and not once did I see the owner or estimator show up on site to even check the progress of the crew, I asked the head guy out there if he was licensed tree expert and he said no, only the owner was and ""he no do the trees, just us"". I was informed by my neighbor who is very by the book (almost to much sometimes) with everything, that I could be fined for having an unlicensed crew working at my home. \r I contact the Department of Natural Resources today (who regulates these licenses) and they informed me that a licensed tree expert must be on site/supervising when any tree work is performed and that in fact I could have gotten fines as could the company because they do not have anyone else listed as authorized to use their license so the owner should have been on site at least supervising any work performed. In addition written Contract is required under the DNR rules also (which I never did receive, so I have no way to prove what was promised to me)\r I was lucky to have work done without getting in trouble myself, but had my nosy neighbor not come out and questioned the companies licenses I would have not known to question the fact. I hate to say it but Thank goodness for nosey neighbors because I now know that the company that does not have some sort of back log is not doing something right! \r Work was semi-acceptable so that is why I give them a 2, the fact that they are using unlicensed help and charging Licensed Tree Expert prices is why it will stay at a 2 star rating. more
