I took my two-year old to the library for the first time about a week ago. I wanted to introduce her to the library and let her see all the books and see the room where the classes are for little ones. Granted, she has never been in a library before, but this was going to be a learning experience. I was so embarassed by one of the librarians while we were there. I went up to the desk to ask if they had a book that was fairly new, and my two-year old stood by the wall. Well, my Mom happened to be in the library, too, and when my daughter saw her, she ran to her. The librarian scolded me for letting my child run in the library. I was so embarassed by this young woman, but at the same time, angry. She is in a public service position....one that is supposed to cater to the public, including young children (hence the children's story times). I'm angry that she would lecture me for my daughter running to see her Grandma. It wasn't like she was running all around the library. She turned our first experience at the library into a terrible memory for me. I'm glad my daughter won't remember it.
