Company without a conscience$$ 6/26/2011

The first day they sent Ed to do the work. We talked about the project and both begin demoing the wall. I always wanted to demo a wall and they had no problem letting me do it. The day did not go well. Ed, the carpenter, did not have a hammer and had to borrow mine. Ed had no vacuum cleaner or a step stool and had to borrow mine. Ed had had no garbage can to remove the demo..yes he borrowed mine. The most disrespectful part was he decided not to clean the vacuum cleaner and the step stool off once they were done. Very unprofessional. Ed also had to leave to go to Home depot twice. I know that because he left oil stains in my driveway both times in two different spots. What else went wrong with Ed? Once the pocket doors were installed they squeaked. They were uneven. Ed decided to use my house as a training ground to train his sidekick on how to install the pocket door hardware. Ed was ready to go before I showed how the doors squeaked and the hardware was uneven. Even Steve Wonder could have seen this. I kept him there another 3 hours to fix the hardware and squeaky doors. Once he pulled off the visqueen, he pulled some paint off the wall. He never said a word until my wife discovered it later. Ed was told to move the electrical. After the wall was torn out, the electrical problem turned out to be above his pay grade and electrician had to be called in. Little did I know, until Ed left, that the power was shut off in our kitchen and half the house. The second day the electrical came and fixed the problem. Awesome guy. Not very happy about the messed, but fixed everything. Rick mentioned we had to pay for it. Unforeseen problem. The problem? A contract was not signed and it did not have that clause in it. It was later waived. After the sheet rock went up. I noticed the doors were not even. It's off centered. Emails were sent to the company on how we are going to fix it. They scheduled someone to come on a Saturday so I would not have to take another day to finish the project. This was nice of them. Rick and I had a talk. The work was finished and corrected by Joel. Great guy. I wish he would have done my doors. Now I have off centered doors and popping noises every time you walk by the room. Later, I had two conversations with Rick about what to do. No compensation was given nor an apology for what Ed did that day. Rick stands by his employee Ed. Ed said this is where I wanted the doors to go. I wanted them off centered doors??? Rick did say "I won't notice the doors are off centered by football season". This came from the owner? No wonder Ed got away with it. If you do email the company and you want the emails to go Rick..make sure you put that in the subject line or Rick will not get it. This happened with the last bunch of photos I sent him about how the doors could have been centered. When Rick arrived to talk about it..he did not see the photos. Just an FYI. They tried to make it right, but fell short on making a customer satisfied. Be careful... this is a company without a conscience$$$ Update 9/23/11. I went to the Better Business Bureau to get their attention. They tried to mediate. Nothing happened. I reported them to the Contractor State Licensing Board. This prompted an unprofessional loud phone call from Rick. Not very happy and it showed in his tone. Then they finally decided to move the doors under their restrictions. In the meantime, the nails started to come out of the project. My wife and I opted not to have the doors removed, because their restrictions were not customer friendly, but have the "bubbling (nail problem)" taken care of. Joel took care of it. Nice guy as usual. I just finished laying the laminate and noticed the doorframe was uneven. I contacted them and never got my question answered. They got what they wanted and I have uneven doorframes and non-centered doors. more
