We've lived here for a few years now. We had some trouble adjusting in the beginning. We moved here from an apartment and were excited to get our own yard so the kids could play.
It turned out that we really can't have much in the yard for the kids. Everything done to the yard must be approved by the park first. If you have a kitty pool it must be drained and put away immediately after each use. The manager was kind enough to let us keep our fence up. We had it for a few month's but neighbors repeatedly complained that we had a fence so we had to take it down. Our yard isn't used for anything right now. We've got a grill but my young children can't play in the yard because they run on the street. Manager said we could put up the cast iron decorative garden fence if we wanted to, but it was too spendy for us and we were saving. I've seen a few people with swingsets and gazebos that seem to work out fine. Management doesn't get after you about painting or putting in flowers/grass. And we've lived here quietly for a couple years no complaints.
I have more of the opposite opinion. The Managers are nice but some of the neighbors are not. I've had neighbors knock on my door to sign petition's about other neighbors, like because someone had an RV or their grass was too long. luckily nothing ever came from it, but I tend to mind my own business.
The rent is the cheapest around. Which allowed us to save for bigger purchases and pay off some student loans so that was a big plus.
I'm not sure what crime people are talking about. I personally haven't had any problems here or know of any.
