Antonios, Best in Dania Beach! 4/6/2011

Randomly ask any Dania Beach resident where to go for a great home style cooked Italian meal and they will most likely point in the direction of Antonios Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant. A Dania Beach staple for over 3 decades, Antonio’s Restaurant has become a second home to those looking for a laid back and affordable dining experience with food quality that rivals most pricey upscale restaurants. It’s a great place where a person can come straight from the beach in shorts and sneakers and sit comfortably next to a businessman in a suit and tie. The key is in the friendly warm atmosphere that makes the customers feel more like they are returning home to mom’s dinner than to a restaurant. \r \r In the late 1970's, owner Tony Suriani Sr. Began working for a corporate pizza chain that brought him down to South Florida to work in their local Dania Beach restaurant. There he would meet and marry a lovely waitress named Karen and over the next 30 years the two, along with their four sons, would build together a wonderful extension of their family that could invite locals to join them for great food and friendly conversation at reasonable prices. \r \r Tony Suriani Sr. bought his own restaurant in 1978. He wanted to, “create and maintain a place where people can come and just relax and feel like home... to actually be a second home.” One way of creatively connecting the food and the people is shown in some of the dishes’ names which derive from their many loyal patrons over the years. You can simply order the veal, or you can order the “Serpe Special” named after the late Jim Serpe, which will get you a deliciously cooked veal cutlet and eggplant with a stuffed shell and manicotti with sausage and meatball. At $18.50 its likely the scariest price you’ll see. The dishes are extremely affordable averaging from around $12 to $15, and come in proportions big enough for two with leftovers. \r \r Early bird “Light Dinners” are also conveniently offered at half the price between 3pm and 6:30pm. The still proportionally generous meals range from $7.50 for such dishes as Stuffed Shells, Lasagna, or Spaghetti with meatball or sausage, to $10.95 dishes like Chicken Marsala or the highly recommended Chicken Francese. All meals come with either soup or salad, and the ever famous Antonio’s garlic rolls “When first opening the restaurant all this hard work went into the quality of the main dishes...and everyone just wanted to talk about the garlic rolls\r \r The garlic rolls are an addiction, and eating just one isn’t a possibility. Kiwanian member Barry Baker enjoys Antonio’s every week when he travels from work all the rolls are off the hook!” \r \r The main courses are made with just the same care for the customer in mind says the owner Suriani Sr., “we use only the best products; people come here and point out all the ways we could be cutting costs on the food, but the quality of the food is most important to me; I want you to come back, and I want you to know you are getting the same great meal you got the time before.” Suriani’s other main goal has always been to give back to the community that has made him so successful. Antonio’s is known for its many charitable contributions to the city of Dania Beach. They are always lending a helping hand, and a good helping of food, to local charities that take place around town as well as their annual feeding of the homeless and less fotuneate locals during the holidays. “Our customers are so loyal to us” says Suriani, being able to give back to them is an important position we’re blessed to be in.” \r \r Customer loyalty was tested this past summer when Antonio’s moved its location to Dania Beach Blvd. (in the plaza just east of Dania Jai Alai). If Friday nights busy crowd was any indication, its safe to say everyone has found the new way to their favorite Italian home away from home. \r more
