Recap:
3/18/11, 8:15 appt. Seen 40 minutes late. Impacted wisdom teeth removed. Paid the copay of $315 that they said was due. Office staff was not overly friendly, did not seem patient with kid nervousness, but nursing staff wasn’t rude, just not patient friendly.
3/22 Called regarding lingering concerns from the surgery. Hoped for an appt, but was told to wait a couple of more weeks ---- I received paper statement from Dr Trakas showing balance due and that it was billed to insurance
3/28 Insurance notified me via EOB that they paid Dr Trakas
4/7 Called Dr Trakas’ office, asked them to mail me a current statement since insurance had paid them since our visit and statement of 3/18. Was told it would be mailed soon.
4/14 Did not receive the statement so I called back. Was told that statements would be mailed on their normal cycle the following week.
4/26 Still did not receive a statement. I went to Dr Trakas office in person and asked for a statement. Was told by Sadie she could not provide this to me. Was told that a statement and a refund of $40 was mailed to me (she confirmed my address) on 3/28, the same day insurance paid. She was going to need to follow up with Dr Trakas before she could print me a statement of our account. Says he does all the billing himself and writes checks out of his account for refunds. Someone will call me by the end of the day on 4/28 to explain. Dr Trakas was not in the office and as Sadie told me, “he is very difficult to reach if he is not in the office.”
I stated how frustrated I was over this whole process and that I was going to notify insurance of my problems with their customer care and service. She said they would not care as it does not involve them.
