This restaurant is definitely the French experience that I wish we had missed. I will give ""La Gare"" a plus for decor, great martini's and the food is good but not sensational for this price. The problem is when you stay beyond the ""seating curfew"". After spending $300.00 (without wine and coffee/desert), we were abruptly offered out coats and asked to leave because the table needed to be set for the next ""lucky couple?"" who happened to be waiting at the bar. We felt very much pushed out the door. Did I mention it was my birthday? What an unpleasant end to an otherwise delightful day. Oh, did I mention that when we were taking to long to decide on our venue, the waiter appeared very flustered and told us he had to get the order into the kitchen because the tables needed to be turned over 3 fold that evening. We had reservations 2 weeks in advance and were punctual on our arrival. A very uncomfortable, rushed feeling was definitely in the air. My significant other and I have dined at many five star restaurants in Manhattan and abroad. There are subtleties a well-run establishment trains their staff to exhibit when they wish to move their guests along. Don't expect that here. A guest is made well aware that the clock starts ticking when you are seated. As a side note, I could spend $10 at Burger King and not be rushed at all. more
