I purchased a Living Social deal for 8 weeks to the Private Workout in Dallas on Mockingbird (I could not find a listing for them on Citysearch).... I needed to jump start me getting back in shape and this seemed like a good way to do it. The workout was fine, I could see myself getting bored after 8 weeks however.... but for 29 bucks, sure... I'd use it.... I would compare this to a Curves type workout with better machines, and private rooms so you can make faces and grunt without anyone watching.
Then my first instructed workout ended. I had to sit through the most obnoxious hard core sales pitch I've ever experienced. I was belittled for not taking my fitness seriously because I would not commit past the 8 weeks I had already purchased. The ""trainer"" was almost shouting at me. He actually said, ""You committed to paying rent, and a car payment... isn't your body more important than those"". And while that might be true, a gym membership is certainly a luxury that is not necessary. At one point I told him I do not do well with high pressure sales tactics, and I was about ready to get up and leave. He kept on... I did get up and leave.
I'm not sure if they were instructed to drive off the Living Social buyers if they would not buy a regular membership... but it sure seemed like it. So, while I'm disgusted by their sales technique I am going to use the crap out of the facility till my 8 weeks are up. The gym is ok, workout seems fine, yet potential to get bored... business tactics AWFUL.
