Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! 12/1/2011

Avoid at all costs!!! If I could give a zero rating I would. During the first season after the insulation was installed (2009-2010), I discovered some cold spots. Reinsulate America (RIA) was made aware, and he offered to come and fix the problem. Made numerous appointments, each of which RIA cancelled at the last minute, sometimes just hours before expected arrival. During the Spring of 2010, I opened up an interior wall (not the one with the cold spot) at the opposite end of the house, and discovered that no insulation had been blown into that section either. RIA said that was impossible. Offered to come back, scan the house with an infrared scanner, and fix the problems. Another heating season went by, with lots of empty promises, excuses and last minute cancellations. By the end of summer 2011, I contracted with a company to repair stucco and water damaged sheathing on the upper two floors of my home. Upon exposing the damaged sheathing, I discovered that there was very little insulation installed anywhere. Many areas were missed entirely. RIA was advised of the extent of the problem, sent a work crew a couple of days later to assess the extent of the problem and made an appointment to return. In the meantime, I needed to stop work for a week on the stucco restoration to wait for him to come back. He never showed up, never called to cancel, could not be reached, A scenario that had been played over 20x before. I had a third party assess the problem, and found that what little insulation was blown into the walls was of such low density as to be completely ineffective, and could possibly lead to condensation water damage down the road. Fiberglass batt insulation that was installed in the attic spaces was also done incorrectly - it was not fastened tight to the walls, instead allowed to hang in the breeze. When pushed to respond to this by ServiceMagic, (how I found them), RIA initially denied that there was a problem, accused me of cleaning up and removing the insulation, and eventually offered to return, but given the track record of broken appointments, I did not think I would ever see this in my lifetime, so I asked for a refund. His response was that it was always about the money and that he would see me in court. I understand from several insulation contractors that I have contacted that the fact that some areas do have some insulation, it is going to be difficult and costly to fill those areas to a proper density (3.5-4 lb/cu ft) because the little existing stuff will present an obstruction that will make it difficult to blow new insulation in. I am left with no other alternative but to hire someone who actually knows what they are doing and are trustworthy enough to get it done - correctly this time. Don't waste your time with this company - you will not get your money's worth. He does not honor his warranty, does not do the work correctly to begin with, and from his point of view, his company can do no wrong. If you are one of the unfortunate people who have used Reinsulate America in the past, I would hurry up and get an energy assessment - just to be sure what happened to me didn't happen to you too. more
