When my friend mentioned going to a place called Acropolis, I couldn't imagine a Greek restaurant in Chatanooga. To my pleasant surprise, that is exactly what I experienced. I was pleased to see several Greek items on the menu in addition to some traditional American cuisine. I chose the Dolmadakias (Dolmades in my house). I was afraid I might be disappointed since I cut my teeth on those things, but I was pleasantly surprised. I healthy serving of six plump stuffed grape leaves arrived at the table, and they were every bit as good as my mother's. To add to the Greek experience, Betty, the owner, came to converse with her guests. She sat at an adjacent table and carried on as if she had known me and my friends for years. Soon her two granddaughters came and sat in her lap -- and they, too, warmed right up to the guests. Perhaps one can appreciate all of that more if he has grown up in a Greek community where everything is a family affair. Needless to say, I felt right at home.
