All I have to say is shop around. Earlier this fall Krinkie wanted over 550 dollars (including a "diagnostic charge") all said and done for a blower motor on my furnace. I thought it might be reasonable, until he said he wanted to charge me 189 dollars more to clean my blower assembly, 189 dollars for a capacitor, and another 189 for a check up. Then tried to tell me I could save 20% by spending more money to let them come out to my house to dig in my pockets some more. So since it wasn't super emergent I called around (still paying them 89 bucks to come to my house). Bottom line, the next guy I called replaced the blower motor, capacitor, cleaned and safety checked my furnace, did a flue gas test, and changed both my aprilaire filters for a grand total of a whopping 665 dollars. He took one look at the "one hour" invoice / price / estimate sheet and laughed. He said he couldn't understand at all how they can justify charging what they do.
