Too many issues 10/5/2011

If you are considering having Robertson build a pool for you, I strongly suggest you read all of this. This is our second pool by Robertson. Built in Nov 2007, it is the same pool I designed for our Southlake home with a Spa added. Back in '94 their salesman was so proud of their work he brought a complete list of everyone the had done pools for and asked us to pick out any of them to call. We called three and got rave reviews. Somewhere between our first pool in 1994 and 2007 they went from great to worse. From 2007 to 2011 we've had five main issues.. One is the original stone coping mortor wasn't correct and they had to relay it three times within the first two years. Second was the Spa Heater kept failing TWICE a year. Even their tech who come out to repair it each time said he had never had a heater fail so often. He normally got 4-5 calls a year for different heaters. After 4 years they had the Zodiac manufacture Tech Supervisor come out to fix it the last time. I asked him to extend the warranty due to all the failures. He said no as Robertson installed it in the wrong location because should be a rain run off guard on our roof above it as it is not water sealed enough to handle water fall run off. It's actually required by Zodiac for warranty. Robertson claimed it was our responsibility! What? They installed it. Fortunately we convinced them to extend the warranty another year, as Zodiac said it was their fault. However, I had to pay someone $200 to install the rain guard. The third is the the mortor again this year. It was cracking all around. I took 44 up close pictures to convince them it was a problem. Fourth is the pool pump. It quite after 4 years. The first pool's pump laster 10 years. When I took this one to their store to have it repair, I was told the pump may not be big enough. The fifth and final straw is the crack in my driveway. They had to auger underneath it to connect to the city water drain system. It was cracked in their process. We witnessed it and the foreman said the crack wasn't big enough to repair at the time. However, he promised to repair it when the crack was a third to half inch wide. He took pictures and said they would be in our file. Once the cracks got big enough we could call and they would repair it. We thought Robertson would live up to their promise, to repair the driveway, but they have chosen not to. First by their not so pleasant on the phone construction manager and finally on the phone with Mr Ron Robertson, the owner. I couldn't get a word in, he just said "" if this is about the driveway, it isn't going to happen. Read your contract about access and driveways"". I tried to tell him about his foreman's commitment and he accused me of lying. I was in disbelief. As I was trying to explain the circumstance he just kept interrupting me. At one point he challenged me to bring it on, his lawyers will love the challenge. To clarify the access is meant to gain access yo your back yard and that they will not be responsible for and damages. They did tear up my lawn and sprinkler system with heavy equipment and while digging, which I paid to have fixed. The problem is they did NOT use my driveway for access because a tree was in the way! We love having a pool and spa. We do appreciate their initial responses. However, based on all we have gone through with this pool's construction and Robertson's responses this past year, I highly recommend you stay away. So much for their voicemail advertising ""Lasting Relationship with you family"". I sure isn't last with us. more
