Terrible Experience at the Columbia Office 10/6/2011

I purchased two laser packages for use at Luna's Medi Spa; one for my bikini line and one for my underarms. I have gone to two of the three appointments and have had a terrible experiences both times. When I scheduled my first appointment over the phone, I wasn't given ANY information on prep for the treated areas. I was told the bikini treatment would be applied one inch within my underwear line. At no point did the office ever contact me to remind me of my appointment nor did I receive any information via email or mail. Luckily, I remembered my appointment date and did have the common sense to shave the areas to be treated. When I visited the spa for my first appointment the technician began the session by making fun of a previous client who ""had failed to shave his back, due to the fact he was getting a divorce."" I found this extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. The laser used at both of my sessions was outdated. It did not have a refrigerated/cool tip, so the procedure was quite painful. To minimize the pain a small mobile fan was directed at my armpits and groin. I wasn't given any disposable underwear to wear during the procedure, which is standard procedure. The gel used, and water which was applied using paper towels of all things, after the treatment both dripped down onto my clothing and underwear; neither of which I was told to remove. I question the sanitary of both. 1) I left with a huge wet spot on my dress, looking like I had urinated on myself. 2) If none of the clients are removing their underwear, how is the machine and table kept clean? Also after my first appointment it seemed as though the laser was not used within my underwear line. But I thought maybe it was just too early to tell what the results would be. Before my second appointment, I visited the spa's website to learn more about their business. The website stated, ""No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated."" After reading this I called the office and requested the topical anesthetic. I was told over the phone that it would cost $10 per area and that I'd need to arrive 30 minutes early for the lotion to work. The day of my second appointment I arrived 30 minutes early. I told the receptionist that I was early to receive the anesthetic. I was told to have a seat and the Tech would get to me soon. While sitting in the waiting room I listened to the two receptionists badmouth other clients behind their backs. I was shocked. After 30 minutes of waiting, the Tech finally called me back. She told me at that Luna's didn't offer topical anesthetic; their insurance didn't cover it. When I told her I had talked with the receptionist twice about it and had confirmed it on their website. She then defiantly told me, ""that would be for the face area."" I proceeded to have the treatment without the option of numbing cream. Weeks later it is now quite apparent that the 1"" area within my underwear line has not been treated with the laser; whereas the hair outside my underwear line has come back thinner and finer. Because of this error, along with the incompetent staff, the Tech's rude and unprofessional behavior, and lack of sanitary precautions, I will not be returning for the final treatment. Such a shame as I've had family and friends who've been extremely happy with their laser packages at other salons. more
