I agree that this practice has seriously suffered after being bought out by VCA. The vets have always been good and I don't believe that has changed. But, the attempts to do very costly tests which are in no way indicated is alarming. During a preop visit, I was told (after the fact) that they had drawn blood for a battery of tests- 90% unnecessary, costing hundreds of dollars. This was for a common procedure on a young healthy dog. I insisted they not submit the lab work and went to another vet for a second opinion (a large well respected practice). The same surgery was less than half the cost of VCA's price, and they didn't require hundreds of dollars of labwork, just the normal preop labs. I decided to do some investigating, and found out VCA's prices were nearly twice the cost of other clinics in central pa, across the board.
