When I told my car in for a state inspection they told me that it would cost around $2600 to get to the point where it would pass. The car wasn't worth that much so I got rid of the car and bought a used one from a close friend. When it started having trouble starting I took it in and was told that I needed to replace my alternator. I told them I was surprised because the guy who jumped my car said that the alternator was producing the right charge level. I asked for an estimate and was told $400 for the part and $200 for the labor. When I told him that the part seem high he said it was because it was a Lexus. He also said that I should replace my aftermarket battery. I told him I didn't think I needed to, he agreed, but said that if I replace both he guaranteed that it would fix my problem.
