A friend of ours gave us a gift certificate to Grbic a year or two ago and we weren't sure what to think of going to a Bosnian restaurant. We finally decided to give it a try. The parking lot was packed and we later found out there was a huge party on the other side of the restaurant enjoying the food ""family style"". The rest of the restaurant was pretty filled at 8:45pm on a Sat. night. We liked the atmosphere, friendly and unique with the brick interior. All of the staff was extremely friendly despite them being very busy.
We started with the soup and salad. The soup special was Trhana and it was excellent. I could just sit and eat the soup and be satisfied It was a tomato based soup with tiny pieces of tender beef and the tiniest pieces of sourdough noodles. The Grbic salad was tasty and refreshing. My husband had the salmon and vegetable rice and I ordered the veal weiner schnitzel with spaetzles instead of the fries. I felt like it was just as good if not better than any German restaurant in town. The mushroom wine sauce was unique with a strong wine flavor. Delicious all around. We also ordered a side of veggies which was enough for both of us to share and were cooked to perfection with a light butter taste. Also, the bread was very fresh, which my husband used to sop up the soup and the wine sauce.
We would definitely drive from Maryland Heights to come back. Next time we'll bring our son who will also enjoy the chicken schnitzel. Hopefully we'll have room to try the apple strudel that looked delicious.
