This restaurant has been a family favorite for many years. You can either eat downstairs in the tavern (complete with stone walls and flooring, dimly lit with candles, waitresses dressed in Colonial Period dress) or upstairs (fancier, more elaborate menu items, higher prices). Either is a good choice. We just went to the tavern portion Labor Day weekend 2010 and as always had a good experience. Highly recommend their hot sandwiches, burgers, and the fruit plate. They also have great homemade apple cider. Prices in the tarvern average $8-$20. In the upstairs portion they even have a gift shop with items other than the typical touristy t-shirt stuff.
