A few years ago we did a story whereas we rigged some hidden cameras and had a plumbing expert through NARI do about $5 worth of damage to a toilet. We called in 3 companies; Flat Rate Plumbing, Blau and Heiden Plumbing. Flat Rate and Blau didn't much inspect the problem and both quoted prices of around $1000 to fix and Heiden came in and said "Oh, I have this part in the truck and it's so minor I won't even charge you." \r

I can tell you that we won 1st place on that story with both the Wisconsin Broadcasting Association and the Milwaukee Press Club. \r

Unfortunately, however, the bottom line was companies can and will charge whatever they want for service. There is no law that caps that. \r
