Great Food.... Service was just Okay. 8/14/2010

We recently moved to the area and decided to give Regina’s a try. Without knowing anything about the restaurant, our assumption was that it was a Greek or family diner, so let me just say that jeans and a t-shirt did make me feel a little out of place, you will definitely want to dress up to at least a khaki/ polo combination for this place.\r \r Our server was friendly, but it seemed like we were often forgotten. He mentioned he was going to get us some bread and came back 15 minutes later with our soup.... no bread. Then while picking up our soup asked if we would like more soda.... since our cups had been empty for going on 10 minutes we eagerly said yes..... 10 minutes later he came back with our meals.... no sodas. At this time, we politely asked for our sodas and reminded him that we had not received any bread for our meal. All was not lost, as 5 minutes later and a good portion in to my meal, I did receive a refill on my beverage and the busboy was shortly behind with our, well, as he put it, here is some more bread.... I laughed at this and replied; wouldn't we have had to get some bread in the first place for this to be more?\r \r As for the food, we had the Portabella Ripiene for our appetizer and let me tell you that this was one of the most amazing things that I have ever tasted and can say that this is definitely what kept me patient with the wait staff because if they could make a mushroom taste this fantastic, I was not about to spoil the mood in anticipation of what may come next. I had the Minestrone soup and my girlfriend had the Pasta Fijoli. I of course tasted both. The Minestrone was excellent, a little more carrots than I would have liked, but definitely what you would expect from decent Minestrone. The Pasta Fijoli was different than I was used to, I am used to this as being a lot like an Italian style chili mac soup (best way I can think to describe it) this was much more bland, to be honest it was like eating a can of beans with some pasta in it, however I don't know which version is authentic and did not judge them based on this soup since (and sorry honey) the one I ordered was good :-) \r \r Now on to the entree's. I ordered the Pollo Alla Regina and my girlfriend ordered the Pollo Parmigiana. They were both excellent. The best way I could describe the Polla Alla Regina would be like having chicken fajitas on top of fettuccini pasta with a light wine sauce that just gives it the perfect balance of flavor that is not over powering and has a nice slightly tangy bite from the wine sauce. The Pollo Parmigiana, I did not try, but according to my girlfriend, the chicken was amazing, but the sauce seemed to be a little bit over powered by the wine, overall she says it was good. She does add however that the sauce tasted great on the chicken, it was only on the pasta that she found it to be a little over powering.\r \r As far as price, you can view their menu with pricing at their website, just do a search for Regina’s in Dundee and you will find it. My opinion was that it is real fair for the quality of the food, a little on the higher end for the area, but very much in line or better priced with what you would expect from restaurants of this caliber in areas like Schaumburg or Oak Brook.\r \r So in summary, the food was real good, the appetizer was amazing, the cost was fair and the service could have been a little bit better, however, I would definitely eat here again in the hopes that maybe our waiter was just having an off day or might have been new. The only other thing I think they could do would be to maybe dress up the outside a bit more to reflect the more upscale environment inside so it doesn't give the impression of a Greek or family diner.\r more
