Oconee County Animal Control 8/1/2010

I do not agree with previous writer. The staff members care a great deal about the animals. I think they should receive more funding from the county but the Board of Commissioners needs to be convinced. The cost for surrendering an animal goes for boarding, feeding, and vaccinations, if required; and the cost of the adoption includes the microchipping upon adoption, and either spaying or neutering, if necessary. The reason it's called surrender is just that....the person is surrendering their animal. The animal now belongs to Animal Control for final disposition. The animal will be given a period of time to be assessed by the staff, given vaccinations, if required. The animal eventually will be eligible for adoption. If the previous owner wants to adopt the animal he/she needs to submit an application, just like anyone else....it's up to the staff to determine whether the previous owner is the best person to adopt the animal...the fact that the animal was surrender will be taken into consideration, I'm sure.... Pros: Caring staff Cons: No A/C in main kennel areas; is not a No-Kill Shelter more
