Customer Beware 7/13/2010

I spoke with Dan regarding upholstering two couch cushions. He suggested bonding them together to form one bench cushion and explained the method to be used. I left a large bolt of fabric that I was told would be returned to me after use for the cushion. I agreed to the process and price and paid cash deposit. Dan refused to note on the receipt the process he told me would be used for the upholstery. I had to insist that the receipt reflect my deposit and Dan obliged. When I picked up the cushion I paid the remaining balance and again had to insist that my receipt reflect ""pain in full"" and be issued a copy of the receipt. The cushion was presented to me in a mess of fabric scraps, lint and other ""shop"" debris. The zipper used in the upholstery was black (my fabric is brown) and the pull is white! There are several stains on the fabric and the seams are not straight. My bolt of fabric was no where to be found. I waited 30 minutes only to be told ""there was no fabric left"" to ""we can't find it"". Dan was not around to speak to about the situation. I left the store with my cushion and was told they would search for the bolt and deliver it to me. I placed the cushion on the couch for a few days and noticed it sagging in the middle. I unzipped the cover to see that the two cushions were never covered with the bonding material I was told would keep it from ""looking like two cushions"". There is a clear crease down the center. I emailed Dan and sent him pictures of the zipper, stains, and crease. I had to call several times and email to get his attention. Dan acted as if he couldn't be bothered with my call regarding these issues and the fact that my fabric was missing. He told me he couldn't see anything from my clear and close-up pictures. My fabric was finally found and mailed to me - off the bolt and folded in a box. Dan refused to acknowledge that he promised to upholster the two cushions with additional material to prevent a ""two cushion"" appearance. He also was pretty quick to tell me that I ""signed a waiver"" when I left the store. Upon looking at my receipt I noticed that there is a statement inferring that the ""customer"" is satisfied with the workmanship. This was hidden from my view with another piece of paper that I was asked to sign stating the ""you picked up the cushion"". Dan wanted me to bring in the cushion so he could look at it but couldn't provide me any possible solutions to the issues. At this point, I am disgusted by his attitude and of those in this store. No one wanted to take responsibility for anything and after the entire transaction I feel as if they are doing a shotty job and trying to escape responsibility by not providing the customer with a solid contract of scope of work promised and paid for. How can the woman that actually upholstered my cushion tell me in person there was ""no fabric left"" when I left a bolt with 12 yards (that they measured) and it only took about 1 yard to fabricate the cover??? Then it appears later?? A black & white zipper with brown fabric, stains, shotty seams????!!!! Outrageous. I do not have enough material after covering the couch, to go back to Dan and have them re-construct a new cover. He offered nothing as resolution. I will never return to this store and I highly recommend you don't go to it in the first place. Pros: I'm still thinking about the pros... Cons: Please see below.... more
