Absolutely horrible. I had dinner at Tapas Teatro last night: the food was decent, although I thought it was overpriced, the atmosphere was like a diner, and the hostess who also seems to be some manager was rude and mean. Already when asking for a table, the hostess spoke in a condescending tone. She never even smiled. ""Is your company already here?"" she nasalized, snapping around so I am answering to her back. Nothing totally unusual and at first hardly noticed by me. The beginning of the evening was nice, our waitress friendly, the food good. The table was quite small for Tapas, but it worked, no big deal. I was still eating my desert when the waitress brought the check for the first time. I declined and ordered another glass of wine. The check again followed right away and this time we paid. I felt rushed like in a diner, but maybe our manager had friends coming over again and wanted this table back (see rating below). This restaurant has elements of cosmopolitan atmosphere with European flair but the staff and management fail to understand the beauty of a leisurely evening. The return of the hostess: Right after we paid but were still sitting to drink the wine, the hostess made another appearance at the table claiming that smoking was not allowed. I was startled: We were outside, the table was on the sidewalk, the waitress had given me an ashtray, no one came when I smoked before dinner and before we paid. I managed to shake this dictator-hostess for a second: ""If this is non-smoking, why did your waitress bring me an ashtray?"" The hostess paused but caught herself quickly deciding to ignore my rude challenging of her authority. She only answered that I could smoke at the both ends right next to the restaurant. I responded that this would be my last cigarette then. Again, even though she obviously lied and just made up that rule, she had to continue her weird mood and power trip: ""No, I need to ask you to extinguish your cigarette now"" and she left. Needless to say I did not extinguish my cigarette and she came back furious that I have dared to ignore her orders: She snatched the ashtray with my cigarette out from underneath me barking: ""This is illegal"". Of course, it was not illegal, I was outside. I watched her stride to the trash bin at the end of the street and was speechless at first. I guess she really wanted this table back or maybe she didn't like my dress, maybe she is xenophobic and didn't like my accent..... I don't know what it was, but a friend confirmed to me the same night, that they always smoke at Tapas Teatro, so I was obviously not overstepping any boundaries by smoking a cigarette. No one came back to our table anymore to serve us form hereon, and the dictator-hostess won her battle: I wanted to leave and return the table to her. My friend must have spent over $60 for two people that night however the hostess/ manager for some reason thought it was necessary to ruin our evening. She is in the wrong business, the place is trying to be something it is not, the food is good but overpriced. For me, a horrible experience, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I have been trying to call this place to complain to the manager, but I can't reach anyone. Pros: Tasty Food Cons: Rude/ lying staff, bad atmosphere, overpriced more
