not a great experience, but found a great place in the end 6/11/2010

So, firstly, I'm a real person - I know it's suspicious when an account only has 1 review and no profile, but I signed up specifically to write this review - I'm usually a Yelp-er. I had a mixed experience with Apuzzi. I didn't feel great about the process at many points, but it did end with me in an apartment that I really like. Go ahead and use them and you may find a nice place, but be prepared to be informed and aggressive - true of most brokers, honestly. I called Reed, an Apuzzi broker, from a Craigslist ad. He couldn't show me the place listed online (strike 1) but offered to show me another. I liked it and decided to sign. Reed was very friendly and professional throughout the process, and he came to my office to bring me the application. There was a $150 fee for both me and my guarantor (strike 2). Then he called the next day to say that the place was $100 more per month than he had originally told me - AFTER I paid $300 in application fees (BIG strike 3). I managed to bargain them down to $25 above the original price and they wouldn't budge any further from there. My mother (my guarantor) called to talk to Steven Apuzzi, the owner of Apuzzi Realty, and he was very rude to her. I met him when I went to sign the lease and he was friendly, but came off as sleazy. I got him to agree to refund one of the $150 application fees because of the higher price, but it took several reminders to get him to actually send me the check. He also took forever to let me know when I could actually move in, which made reserving a U-Haul tricky. Reed met me to let me into the apartment to measure before moving in, which was nice. But I asked him to ensure that several repairs were done before I moved in, and only about half of them were by my move-in date. All of that said, I'm now in apartment that I like a lot and that is very reasonably priced, and I didn't have to pay Apuzzi a broker's fee. I think they just pulled the same crap that most cheap/no-fee brokers do, so they're probably not much worse than any others. You may find a great, cheap place through them, and Reed was an excellent broker (none of my issues were with him), but do your research and be prepared to haggle. Pros: nice broker, cheap apartment Cons: lack of honesty about pricing, rudeness more
