Corden's Candy Carousel was a treasured stop for me as I walked home from school in the 1970s. Its immaculate candy-striped interior held all sorts of wondrous homemade chocolates, diabetic-friendly treats and ice creams, always served graciously by Ellis Corden and his staff. It is a shame that the area's decay has made this treasured place less welcoming than it was in my youth, but stop in if you can -- and get one for me. In a more gentrified location, this place would be legendary.
Pros: Old-fashioned candy making
Cons: It's in Inkster
