Patterson's vet is a great vet to go to for routine things. Shots and spays/neuters, heartworm medication and worming. The cost is really almost nothing compared to other vets, and the staff is friendly and obviously loves animals very much.
However, the waits are long. Long long. There are no appointments, and people are attracted by the cost- Patterson's is popular. The hours of operation are also weird, it's best to call ahead before you need to go to make sure they'll be open. If in doubt, every weekday they are open 10:00am-12:00noon. Anything else is kind of a crap shoot and varies from day to day.
Don't go on a Monday morning unless you're okay with waiting two hours. They aren't open on the weekends, so everybody comes in at once. Also, don't expect to get called in the order you arrived. Emergencies go ahead of you, as do things like post-spay/neuter check-ups. Don't complain. Everybody in there has had to wait while other people cut ahead of them.
And if your pet is seriously ill, if something is wrong that isn't simple- you should probably go somewhere else. I'm not saying Patterson's is bad, but this is a little country practice.
X-rays are only a hundred dollars a pop- but there is no ultrasound machine, and they are going to give you the simplest, cheapest solution first. They aren't diagnosticians, they aren't up on the latest in veterinary medicine. But they will charge you a pittance for shots and medication, and remember your name and ask about your kids at home. They are very nice, and they do what they do for as close to free as any vet I've ever seen.
Pros: low cost, friendly staff
Cons: low cost, long waits
