The menu insn't all five star !! 4/8/2010

I went to Pam's on the advice of a neighbor, who goes often. I sat in their patio, which is large & very pleasant, to order dinner. I asked the waiter if their tortilla soup had chicken & avacado, as they prepare in in other Mexican restaurants, in San Antonio, as well as Acapulco, where I lived for 16 years. When the waiter said they do, I ordered a bowl. The pieces of chickenc & avacado were literally microscopic, & the soup was mainly filled chick peas. Then I ordered a 'Reuben' sandwich with pastrami as my choice of meat, with extra slices of cheese. When my pumpernikel bread sandwich arrived, it was so soggy, the ends of the sandwich both drooped, so I had to use two hands just to keep it from falling apart. The extreme sogginess was caused by the sauerkraut being very wet; it wasn't drained or dried. The water made the usually sturdy pumpernickel literally droop! Their 'homemade' Russian dressing tasted very un-Russian, and off-taste, to say the least. Pam came over to ask how the food was, and I told her why the sandwich was a great disappointment. I told her, frankly, that Jason's 'Reuben' was the way to make a 'Reuben', where the amount of meat put on is enormous, and the sauerkraut is never water-logged. (It's also much less expensive). I didn't even get to mention the extra cheese I ordered could not be found, probably because they added only their one, usual, slice. (I ordered three extra slices of cheese that I could not see or taste.) After hearing my descriptive low opinion, she smiled and walked away, never offering to make anything 'right.' I could not finish the other half that terrible (and expensive) sandwich, so I had it packed & took it home. At home, it was even more unappetizing, because had become even more 'soupy.' I threw it away. The two items I ordered came to $15 and change. Expensive for such poor preparation of two very common food items. Pam's declining to make any offer to make my dining experience end more enjoyablly,-- the true mark of all good restaurant hosts, convinced me not to return. I'm sure other items are just fine-- but I had two 'strike-outs' in a row, with no offer of a 'happier ending' from Pam. . Pros: beautiful patio Cons: tortilla soup, 'reuben' sandwich more
