Getting rid of my car while living in Davis Sq, the one thing I expected to find a serious hassle was getting groceries. There's a 24 hour grocery store down at Porter, not that far away, but if I'm taking the T home from work, I want to be able to get out at Davis and get everything on my way home. This is why I was super excited to find McKinnon's.
This is a classic butcher shop. They've got a tiny selection of produce, some potatoes and peppers and fruit, etc., but the main attraction here is the two gigantic walls of refrigerated shelves of meat as you walk in the store. On the left, lamb, beef, and sausages. On the right, pork and chicken. In between, I don't know, I don't buy their seafood.
Seriously cheap meat. Stop by after work during the summer and pick up a pound of steak for you and a friend for about $5 and toss it on the grill. Seriously, you can't beat the prices at this place, it's ridiculous.
Seriously, if you live anywhere nearby, you must start frequenting McKinnon's
Pros: STEAK for the price of chicken at fancier stores
Cons: Not super high quality
